2020 is the year of the frictionless car buying experience.

Well 2020 NADA has come and gone, and now it’s time to take a look at the hard facts of how your dealership can improve this year. One of the terms that have made its debut this year is “frictionless”. It seemed that every vendor this year had a "frictionless" solution.

So what is frictionless car buying? The answer is very simple. It means there are minimal points of ("friction") disconnect between the consumers wants and the dealership service provided. It roots from UX and UI marketing, which look to improve the customer experience when shopping and buying a car. It is a joint effort across marketing, sales, service, parts and administrative staff. The goal is for all departments to work together to minimize customer frustration and encourage transparency and simplicity in the car buying process.

Some frictionless customer experiences that your dealership may offer to your customer are:

  1. Allowing customers to shop for vehicles by payment and pre-qualify on your website.
  2. Enabling customer to browse your F&I protection products and virtually meet your finance managers.
  3. Creating a seamless transition from online shopping to offline shopping.
  4. Minimizing lengthy back-and-forth negotiations. Be upfront with your pricing and provide market-based data to support it. 
  5. Be product and service experts available to answer your customers question through text, chat, and phone. 
  6. When the customer arrives to drive a vehicle, have it waiting and running (warm or cool). 
  7. Offer customer the option to have their vehicle picked up by your service department, and returned when service is complete.
